Gemini Integration Across Products
Google’s AI model, Gemini, is now integrated across products. This “multimodal” model handles text, images, videos, and code. The latest version, Gemini 1.5 Pro, boasts improved “native multimodality” and a leading “long context” capability, processing 1 million tokens. Google is expanding (in private view) this context window to 2 million tokens with the ultimate goal of “infinite context” in the future.
Rethinking the Search Experience with AI Overviews
Leveraging Gemini’s capabilities, Google Search is getting a major revamp with “AI Overviews.” This feature promises to deliver more comprehensive and insightful answers to user queries. The rollout begins this week in the U.S. with global expansion following soon.
Workspace Gets Smarter
Gemini’s integration into Workspace applications empowers them with new functionalities. Imagine summarizing lengthy email threads, querying content within Gmail, or automating workflows between Gmail, Drive, and Sheets – that’s the future of Workspace with Gemini.
AI Agents: Taking Tasks to the Next Level
Google introduced Project Astra, their initiative to build AI agents capable of natural, real-time interaction. The project aims to create a “universal AI agent that can be truly helpful in everyday life.”
Creative Content Generation
Google unveiled a suite of generative media tools, including Imagen 3 for image generation, Music AI Sandbox for artists, and Veo, a video model that creates high-quality videos from user prompts.
Trillium Powers Up AI
Google’s latest TPU, Trillium, marks a significant leap in AI processing power, boasting a staggering 4.7x performance improvement per chip over its predecessor. TPUs, or Tensor Processing Units, are custom-designed machine learning accelerators developed by Google.
Android: Embracing AI
AI is becoming the beating heart of the Android experience. Features like “Circle to Search” let users query anything on their screen, while Gemini, integrated at the system level, provides context-aware assistance.
Gemini Nano: On-Device Intelligence
The on-device AI model, Gemini Nano, brings the multimodal capabilities of Gemini to Android phones. Gemini Nano is a specialized AI model designed to run locally on the device, enabling faster responses and improved user privacy.
Gemma 2: Expanding Open Source AI
The next generation of Gemma, Google’s open-source family of models, arrives in June. Gemma 2 boasts a larger 27 billion parameter model, offering high performance in a compact size.
LearnLM: Personalized Learning
Google introduced LearnLM, a family of AI models designed to personalize and deepen learning experiences, going beyond simple answers. Gems, like the “Learning Coach,” within the Gemini app, point towards a future of tailored educational support. These Gems are essentially specialized modules tailored for specific tasks or topics.
